Baddies! Some of the most fun on any project is to be had designing monsters imho. For Soundfall we needed a species of baddies composed of twisted, corrupted music- the Discordians- and the first one up was the common Grunt unit. He had to be vaguely threatening- appealing in a “I can’t wait to pop that like a piñata full of exp” kinda way.
I started by using the musical energy motif from Melody’s armor and weapon- wrapping pure music (luminous bars and notes) in jagged, crusty black armor. His face and motifs were all derived from simple musical notation and the result gave us a strong base to build from!
